La Broque Bas-Rhin, Alsace

1761692 (La Broque) - This film actually has several parishes on it that are scattered throughout Alsace. Some of the records are marriage tables compiled by J.P. Kaminske whose name you may have seen on the internet. I only looked at the La Broque records and the tables. The other parishes were all in German-speaking parts of Northern Alsace that seemed to have no connection with the families we are researching. The La Broque records were magnificently indexed with a written introduction (in French). The records on the film were in fact typed transcriptions of the actual records. Unfortunately, the people who compiled these records stopped about 1700. There were no Strasbachs, Noels or Gerards listed. However, there were two entries for children of Dominic Ory and Jeanne Maison: Joseph born 29 October 1693 and Jacques born 16 December 1695. I note that a Dominic Ory was the father of Francois Ory, but Francois had a different mother. Perhaps this was he and a second wife, although these two children would have been only slightly older than Francois's children (Nicholas Ory, e.g.). I will send you copies of the introduction and the two records. By copy of this letter, I am offering them to Dominic and Horace Ory as well if they are interested. The introduction indicates (I think) that around 1687 the royal government imposed a system of officially stamping these records with the seal of the chancery of the Bishop of Metz and that the pages thereafter were numbered and the records more regularly maintained.

765641 (La Broque) - I think this film may contain the pre-1700 records that are indexed on the other film. They are scrambled because the parish of Vipucelle (which included La Broque) had several localities and records were apparently kept separately for each of them. You will recall that I had reached page 194 two Saturdays ago. I completed those numbered pages, which end at 344, and looked through a FEW of the ensuing unnumbered pages, reaching April 1728. If you want to look at it this week, you may want to backtrack over some of what I did from the end of the numbered pages. This is big film with a lot of very detailed records - but none at all that I have seen so far (other than the Joseph Noel reference you and I fournd two weeks ago) that relate to our families. One entry I found of tangential interest was on page 334 there was the death record of Father Joseph Beuillon (aka "Dom Joseph"), whose name we have noted on all the registries in this area. The introduction on the other film notes that he took over the maintenance of the La Broque registers around 1696/1698.

Wayne

Based on the earlier report by Wayne, I decided to take a more detailed look at this film. The only Seven Family names included are Ory (mostly) and Strasbach (rarely). The Orys are mostly the family of Dominic Ory and Jeanne Maison. I suspect that this Dominic, and Nicolas Ory pere (father of the Nicolas Ory fils of the Princess Augusta), may be sons of an earlier Dominic Ory, who has been shown to be the father of the Francois Ory from the Princess Augusta. I also suspect that the Leopold Ory married to Catherine Viry may be the son of Nicolas Ory pere. Thus, although none of the results relates directly to the Seven Families, it may be possible to connect them when we have more complete records.

Nearly all the film is readable. The few illegible parts are near the beginning of the film. Although the film is supposed to cover the years 1678-1765, there were very few entries earlier than 1688, and I stopped examining at the year 1749.
