St. Stail
Looked at the back of the St.-Stail film, Wayne started in the front.  I found a number of Noels,  There is a Joseph Noel born about 1779  this would make him 56  as a passenger.   In a scan of the Noels, Wayne has the details for Baptisms I could not find a Peter born in 1719-20 and we need to find a Peter son of Joseph about 16 to confirm we have the right Joseph.

Then in the death records I found a Joseph Noel son of Joseph Noel still in St..Stail in 1742 and one of the signed the register.  Therefor I do not think ST-Stail is the source of our Noels.

It is also interesting to note that there was a Barbara Strasbach [1790's to 1740's] Daughter of Joseph Strasbach  Born - Married, had children and Died in St..Stail but there is no record of brothers or Sisters.

St.. Stail is to the East between Saales to the South and Saulxures to the North.   TED


I had searched this film up to 1726.  You will note (as Ted informed
you in a previous e-mail) that there is a Joseph Noel with a 1679
birthdate that would fit the age of the Princess Augusta Joseph.   I
have marked his name in bold italics and the other references that just
might relate to him. However, aside from a reference to Joseph as a
godfather for a 1695 baptism, the other references in the St. Stail
records that I have marked are doubtful connections to the Joseph born
in 1679.  I think that the 1700 entry for the father at the baptism of
another Joseph  is really for Jean Noel, and the Joseph who appears in
the 1720's with Francoise Vivion as his wife could be the Joseph who was
born 1700.
Nevertheless, I would like to propose the theory that "our" Joseph was
born here and moved away, perhaps to Chatas (which we have not yet
checked).  St. Stail is relatively near Saulxures so that it is more
likely that the Noels living there came into contact with the
Strasbachs, Delons and Gerards of Saulxures than would be the case with
Noels living elsewhere.  And the November 1679 birthdate of this Joseph
would be that of a 56-year old man in September, 1736.
Also, notice that a Jean Francois Chrestien is listed as a godfather for
a 1716 baptism. You will recall that  a person of the same name was on
the Princess Augusta.  Wayne
