Note: John
E. Noel was one of the first aerial photographers above
France in WWI. His picture is hanging at Langley Air
Force Base, VA. After the war, he sold mining equipment
supplies for Kennametal in Benton, IL.
Note:
John Dryden
Noel served in the 7th Army, 95th
Division, 379th Regiment. He earned the
Silver Star for valor and gallantry in action, Oct 14
& 15th, 1944. He was killed in action on
Nov 7th, 1944 near Metz, France. That night
his regiment was sending out large (24 man) patrols to
probe German defenses around the city of Metz. He died
of a head wound and received the Purple Heart. The
offensive to liberate Metz began Nov 8, 1944.
